Itaipu Dam Hydraulic Laboratory Model
Built on the Paraguayan border, in a place on the edge of the access road to the Itaipu Power Plant, the model obeys the scale of 1,100 and occupies an area of 5,500 m2. With this model, the Hydrology Division can analyze the spillway flow conditions, define the Iguacu river interference on the escape channel of the Itaipu turbines, verify the behavior of the water downstream of the plant, when a turbine stops or enters operation. The Hydraulic Model also allows the study of the influence of the winds in the system, determining the navigability regime downstream of the dam.

Exactly equal to the natural dam, the "Reduced Model" measures 270 meters long by 12 meters wide, representing a stretch of 27 km from the Parana River.

In this unit of experimental studies are carried out in scale surveys for the construction of the navigation locks that will allow the vessels to cross the dam, overcoming a difference level of 120 meters.
