How to make a caipirinha!

How to make a caipirinha!
click to enlargeThe Caipirinha is the Brazilian national drink. It is made of Cachaca (the "kashassa" is a Brazilian rum made from the sugar-cane), lime, sugar and crushed ice. Some people add other fruit juices to the cachaca, but the true caipirinha contains no juice other than the juice from the limes. How is it made? First peel the lime and slice it, put the slices of lime in a pitcher and add sugar. Mash the lime and the sugar together and add the ice. Add cachaca until the pitcher is filled. (Water can replace part of the cachaca if a weaker drink is prefered).
