The city
click to enlargeThe city of Foz do Iguaçu (reads Iguassu) is situated on Brazils frontier with Paraguay and Argentina at an altitude of 164 meters above sea level. In just a few decades, Foz do Iguaçu has evolved from a small town into an important commercial center and tourist attraction. It now has a population of over 275.000 inhabitants. The transformation came about largely as a result of the construction of the Itaipu Binational Hydroelectric Dam and the tourism activity generated by the Iguassu Falls National Park.
Location: Brazil

Melting pot

Few Brazilian cities have a richer ethnic diversity than Foz do Iguaçu. This racial "melting pot" is the result of a tendency that began with the colonization of this region. Due to territorial disputes and other historical factors, it has been cosmopolitan from the beginning.
Nowadays, there are people from over 75 different countries.
